From painted lanterns to LED lights that break every rule \u2014 this is a road full of wonder. A story of a creature following the light.<\/h5>



I am that creature.
\nI studied fine arts in college, then spent years writing copy. Chasing love and freedom, I left everything behind and arrived in Amsterdam a decade later.
\nA stranger in a new city, carrying one enormous dream \u2014 to one day become truly myself.\nI sold my illustrated folding album on Rembrandt Square, standing among the passing tourists, holding in my hands the thing I loved most. My calling.

\n\nThen one day, a Dutch friend brought me two lanterns she'd bought from a Chinese shop. She wanted me to paint on them.
Painting on a lantern with a brush demands total presence \u2014 one breath, one stroke, beginning to end without hesitation. In that new challenge, I felt something I hadn't felt in years. A sense of completion, like a journey around the earth that had finally returned to where it began.
Inspired by the lantern, I created a series called \u201cFollow the Light\u201d.

\nThat was 2017. I wandered the streets of Amsterdam with my portfolio, searching for somewhere to show my work. Behind the Royal Palace, I found a remarkable art space \u2014 K.I.S. \u2014 filled with bold paintings and furniture unlike anything I'd seen. JAN ran the space. Against all odds, he gave me my first exhibition.\n
\nAfter seeing my works, JAN invited me to step into a new world \u2014 LED light as art. He believed my eye for beauty and sensitivity to color could bring something entirely different to this emerging field.\n
He rewired my artist's mind. Helped me think in new ways, break through technical limits. Under his guidance, I dismantled a lantern, salvaged its wire frame, and created a new series of paper LED works \u2014In the Light.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

K.I.S. has since closed its doors. But the light Jan passed to me continues to burn within.<\/p>

LED technology \u2014 compact, cool, low-voltage \u2014 has opened infinite possibilities for the contemporary lighting artist.
In Amsterdam, my lamps were mostly experimental \u2014 endlessly wiring together countless tiny G4 LED bulbs to bring my imagined world into being.
After returning to Taiwan, I began to think about the balance between art and commerce. Facing unclear regulations and the limits of a single lifetime, I now prefer to create the shade, and place it onto ready-made bases and wiring.<\/p>

Out of deep respect for safety, I use only locally or internationally certified light sources and power components in everything I make.\nYet the rules governing the import and export of lighting are strict, and different in every country. For this reason, some of my works will need you to install a light source and power supply suited to where you are.<\/p>

In a deeper sense \u2014 I invite you to complete what I have made. The art is mine. The light is yours.
